Food Disparity During the Holidays

foodpantry

Despite ranking 3rd in the country for its fruit and vegetable production, one in every six Arizonans still struggle when it comes to food access. The issue of food disparity leaves almost 1/3 of Arizona residents struggling with food insecurity, meaning they’re occasionally or constantly lacking access to food. And, most of the time the food that they can access lacks nutritional value.

Most of us, when we think of the holidays, think of delicious feasts and being surrounded by our loved ones. It’s important we remember that not everyone gets this luxury and that we need to make an effort to spread the joy of the holiday season by keeping the less fortunate in mind. FSL does just that.

Through our food pantries, we provide 375,000 pounds of food to families in need throughout our state. Additionally, we serve and deliver almost 1,400 meals to Arizonans every single day. Kicking into high gear for the holiday season, we’ll be offering special holiday extras. The focus during this magical time should be on friends and family, not hunger.

All of this is made possible thanks to the support we receive. Agencies as well as donations from schools, businesses, civic organizations, and individuals help FSL continue to impact the lives of those who fall below the poverty level.

Anyone who may need a little help can give us a call to learn more about the variety of services we offer to the community. There are programs in place to prevent hard-working individuals from ‘falling through the cracks,’ as well as services and educational resources catered to fit each individual’s situation.
