FSL to start construction on Casa del Sol subdivision in Wickenburg

Contract with Maricopa County will fund infrastructure improvements, financial assistance for first-time homebuyers

PHOENIX, Ariz. (June 20, 2022) – At a time when housing is increasingly difficult to find across Arizona, and many first-time homebuyers are priced out of the market, FSL is pleased to announce a contract with Maricopa County that will allow construction to begin on the Casa del Sol subdivision in Wickenburg.

“Affordable homeownership benefits families by offering stability without taking over such a large portion of their budget that they can’t afford other necessities,” said Jacqueline Edwards, director for the Maricopa County Human Services Department. “The County’s contract with FSL
will allow for the dream of affordable homeownership to become a reality for many families.”

The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds awarded by the county will fund infrastructure improvements and financial assistance, reserved specifically for first-time homebuyers earning less than 80% of the area median income.

“FSL is grateful for the support of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors,” said Tami Bohannon, president and CEO of FSL. “June is National Homeownership Month, and the timing of this award could not have come at a better time. First-time homebuyers have struggled to get contracts accepted due to competition against investors.  The ARPA funds will allow us to level the playing field and reserve homes for owner-occupants who will be invested in the community.”

With this project, FSL will be able to provide 12 homebuyers with $15,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance. That money will be layered with another $25,000 in assistance from other funding sources.

The Casa del Sol subdivision is a welcome and much-needed addition to the Town of Wickenburg.

“Housing is a priority,” said Deputy Town Manager Tim Suan. “We seek to empower all community partners in the effort to provide housing for all existing and future residents.”
