The New Year Is for Making New Friends

FSLWickenburg-229

As anyone who has ever relocated can tell you, making friends as an adult is hard. That’s even more true for seniors, many of whom are constrained by mobility issues, chronic health problems, and lack of access to transportation.

As it turns out, however, friends aren’t just a luxury. A lack of meaningful social connection can seriously affect our mental and physical health. These include:

  • heightened risk of cognitive decline and dementia
  • greater risk of depression and/or suicide, particularly among older adults
  • increased chance of developing high blood pressure or coronary heart disease
  • increased chance of having a stroke

Making Friends Is Easy at Wickenburg Senior Center

At FSL, we understand how important it is to take a holistic approach to meeting all of our clients’ needs, whether those are physical, logistical, emotional, or social. For that reason, we’ve taken care to ensure that our Senior Centers aren’t just places for our clients to receive lifestyle support—they also offer a vibrant social atmosphere where seniors can find a sense of community and belonging.

FSL’s Senior Centers, including Wickenburg Senior Centers, are grounded in a spirit of warmth, acceptance, and fun. In addition to offering a daily place for clients to gather and enjoy one another’s company, our Senior Centers also host regular special events and activities. These include weekly bingo, live entertainment such as music, arts and crafts, and Fritter Fridays.

If you or a loved one is struggling with feelings of loneliness or isolation, drop in on one of FSL’s daily hot lunches and learn more about the social opportunities available to clients.
