Wickenburg Senior Center Provides Comfort and Companionship Over the Holidays
Many of us take for granted the ability to be around our family or friends for the holidays. For seniors, however, that’s not always an option, particularly if their families don’t live nearby. Mobility issues, health problems, and lack of financial resources are just a few of the things that can prevent seniors from traveling to see their loved ones.
As a result, many seniors are left alone on holidays. A 2017 survey by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) found that 31% of participants reported feeling lonely during the holiday season in the last five years. This, at a time when loneliness and social isolation among older adults are already alarmingly high.
Helping Seniors Beat the Holiday Blues
For seniors without family or friends to share the holidays with, Wickenburg Senior Center offers a warm and welcoming environment for anyone over the age of 60. In addition to its standard offerings (which include social events, daily hot lunches, activities, games, and entertainment), Wickenburg Senior Center hosts special holiday meals and programming that are open to all. Rather than being alone, seniors can enjoy companionship, good food, and a festive atmosphere.
